I'm new to Linux. So far I've been working with Eclipse / SAPGUI for JAVA on Mac and everything worked fine. Since last week, I'm trying Ubuntu, so I installed Eclipse Mars (same as Mac), SAPGUI for JAVA 740 rev6 (same as Mac), and ADT. I can create the ABAP project, but when I try to open a DDIC table or Data Type, anything that should open on SAPGUI inside Eclipse, I get a NullPointer error.
Any idea why this may be?

I am just trying to move from SE80 to Eclipse for ABAP developments.
I installed Eclipse followed by installtion of ABAP development tools using https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/juno as source of software tools.
I am unable to connect SAP
systems which are already available in SAP logon pad. I can see systems while creating new project but when I am trying to login into system using correct credentials eclipse is throwing error.
I am putting all details below.
Please help me in getting a solution of this problem.

Hi,
Am using SAP HANA studio Version: 1.80.3 and have got the ABAP perspective in here.
I am able to connect to the SAP ABAP system via the studio, however when I open the folder, am not able to open the ABAP system folder and see objects.. on expanding the system node, I see nothing!.
I am able to connect to this same system with HANA Studio Version: 1.0.70.
Can you please suggest what might be wrong?

On a related note, when I click on the "Check for Updates" button, I get a PROXY authentication required error. Is there a way to configure the proxy authentication details in HANA studio version 1.80.3?

I am new to CDS views in ABAP Dictionary so not sure whether my question is basic or complicated.
I want to create a CDS view in ABAP by joining 5-6 tables based on certain conditions and then retrieve the information from this view in my Report by passing the Select Options defined in the Report selection screen.
My Queries
a. Is the CDS view similar to a Normal Database view ?
b. Can I use IN select-option in my Open SQL statement to fetch information from CDS view ... e.g
SELECT f1 f2 f3 from CDS-View into Internal-Table where f1 in so_f1
c. Is it possible to have a CDS view and code it similar to Procedure in HANA where I can make join on 2 tables and get the results in a Temp table and then again join the Temp table and a third table and fetch the results in Temp2 table?
d. If point c. is not possible in CDS view then my question is How can I pass a Select option (multiple options) to a AMDP Procedure and use that in my query to fetch the information from database

I am trying to use ADT on the following system:
OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
Eclipse Luna 4.4.2 with the following installation details:
SAP GUI for Java 7.40 rev 2
(Version ID 074000040200)
The backend system is SAP NetWeaver 7.4
1) When I try to create an ABAP Project I get the following error:
Landscape file */Library/Preferences/SAP/SAPGUILandscape.xml cannot be parsed.
Please check its content or the configuration path in SAP GUI.
2) I also tried creating the connection manually but I get the following error in this instance:
Logon to system SYSID failed (hostname 'MYCOMPUTERNAME' unknown)
Any idea why I would be experiencing these problems and how I can resolve them?

Mac OS X (Lion), Java GUI 7.30, Eclipse Kepler with ADT. I do have a properly working entry in SAPGUI / Java for my HANA Trial but when I want to connect with Eclipse I have to choose one of the entries in my Java GUI and Eclipse does complain that there is no message server. But for HANA trial I don't need a message server (and - for good reasons - I don't have one 
).
Why does that work in JAVAGUI and not in Eclipse?

Hello,
I have seen several blogs about ABAP in Eclipse. The prerequisites always mention Eclipse release 3.6 or 3.7.
I have noticed that the HANA Studion is based on Eclipse 3.8.
Can I install the ABAP for Eclipse Plugin in the HANA Studio or do I have to install a second IDE with the version 3.6 or 3.7?

When attempting to create a new ABAP Project in ADT, I get an error at the credentials screen.
"Logon to system ERD failed (System "ERD" does not support Eclipse based ABAP Development Tools)"
Perhaps someone can help shed some light on this. Is there some additional configuration that must be done either on the client or backend?

Hi gurus,
I tried to run Eclipse right after installation and adding the UI5 addon but it gave the attached error (no sapjco3 in java.librabry.path).
I tried the option from the link I found on SCN (Re: error when run the eclipse first time), it does not help.
I also searched for sapjco3.dll file in the Eclipse folder but it did not find anything.
That is why:
If you have any idea how we can move past this error it would be quite helpful.

We would like to extract code from a form-routine into a new static class-method to *begin* refactoring legacy code as described in "Working effectively with legacy code"...
Currently it's shock-and-awe:
awe: we can easily extract code and it's working great!
shock: we are limited to classes and cannot refactor the existing function-group codebase....

we are working on a custom plugin for Eclipse based on the ADT SDK. We would need a possibility to edit multiple ABAP development objects (classes, reports etc.) in background without opening them in the Eclipse editor, i.e. load the objects, update them and post them back to the application server.
Are there some services in the ADT API that we could use in order to solve this issue?

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have one issue which currently stops me to working on ABAP ADT instead of SAP GUI. It becomes more and more critical for me. The issue is very simple: it’s how the ABAP ADT locks ABAP classes when you start something typing in ADT source code editor. When ADT locks the ABAP class then that ABAP class is completely locked, all its sections and parts (all methods and class definitions). It completely blocks me and my colleagues to work in one ABAP class simultaneously.
For example: using SAP GUI (SE80) I can open ABAP class and go to a particular method of this class and starts changing one, so the system only locks that class method, not the whole class and all its methods, while my colleague had been already working on another class method. If we consider this case with ABAP ADT: If my colleague is working on one of method of the class and I’m trying to change another method of the same class via ABAP ADT then ADT sends me the lock error and vice versa, if I’m working on one of the method of the class my colleague will not be able to change another method of the same class which’s more worse because I’m blocking his/her work at all.
Does anybody know if it’s possible to set-up ABAP ADT, so that it will lock a particular ABAP class section (method) instead of the whole class?

I'm trying to use the sys.dummy table to do some calculations in ADT. However, when I issue e.g. the statement
SELECT RAND()*1000 AS VAL FROM DUMMY
in SQL console I get the error
"DUMMY" is not declared as a table, projection view, or database view in ABAP Dictionary or does not exist in an active version
When I try to join dummy in a CDS view definition I get
"Basis object dummy does not exist or is not active"
In the same system, when I execute the function module SHDB_EXISTS_TABLE with I_SCHEMA_NAME = SYS and I_TABLE_NAME = DUMMY, I get a positive result. Inside, it counts the rows of the table to check whether it exists. So it must be active, otherwise it couldn't count the rows.
Is there any limitation that I can't use table DUMMY in ABAP Developer tools?
System is a HDB system with SAP_BASIS 751.

I`m an ABAP developer and would like to use ABAP in Eclipse. I have installed Eclipse Kepler 4.3 in Windows 7 64 bit along with the component from the website https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/#abap
after installed the ADT component and UI5 I got the issue with communication Layer attached.
I have installed the JCO from SAP website and followed the configuration.
I have gone through all the procedures below.
1. Microsoft VC runtime is missing: as per information ontools.hana.ondemand.com/#abapyou have to download and install it from:x86orx64
2. Not proper JAVA is installed: JAVA JRE 1.6 or higher is needed, download it from http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. I choose to install JAVA Platform SE 7 U67 version 7.0.670.1.
3. As per Note “2041195 - Eclipse does not identify operating system correctly” I set settings in Eclipse’s eclipse.ini file. Add following line:
-Dorg.osgi.framework.os.name=win32
Into -vmargs section of file.
does anyone knows what else should be done?

we will have abap eclipse development (and bw query and so on) in the near future.
What is the best way to deploy the development environment to the developers? Do you use packaging like MS SCCM? Is it possible to have all developers working with the same Version? I do not want everyone to update his eclipse and adt Version on hos own.
What eclipse Version should be used at the moment? I think Mars is the goto Version. is that right?
